Upon reading news in the Wall Street Journal Online, 2/17/15, regarding a White House decision to equip Syrian moderate rebels with forward air control capability, I just had to write a comment in the WSJ's online forum. Here is what I wrote (the part about my father's military service and the Vietcong body counts during the 1960s is true):
Dear President Obama:
News of your decision to provide Syrian moderate rebels the ability to call-in air-strikes by U.S. aircraft gives me hope that I may finally be able to fulfill a childhood fantasy.
Ever since I was a little boy, growing up in the 1960s and listening to the morning Vietcong body count reports on the AM radio, while my father, a Korean War veteran, ate his breakfast and prepared to go to work, I have dreamed of becoming a forward air controller.
May I put in an order for my very own Toyota Hi-Lux pick-up truck, with the available Forward Air Controller Package? Could you make it blue? With an in-dash USB port?
By the way, you being the President of the U.S.A., and the U.S. Air Force being, you know, American, is there any chance I could swap-out the Toyota for a Ford F-150, or may a Chevy Colorado?
Thank you, Mr. President, for helping to make my boyhood dream come true!
