This is why people live and work in Los Angeles. Photo from Convergent HQ, facing northeast, with palm trees in the foreground and the snow-capped San Gabriel Mountain Range in the distance. The tallest of the San Gabriels is Mount San Antonio, commonly known as Mt. Baldy. During winter, you could catch an eary morning wave off the beach in Malibu and hit the slopes on Mt. Baldy in the afternoon (or, better yet, fly to Aspen and catch a run before the Silver Queen Gondola closes).
